Biology / Botany / Zoology

Biology helps us in understanding the living part of the world and the ways many species including humans function, evolve and interact. Advances in medicine, agriculture, biotechnology and many other areas of biology have brought improvements in the quality of life. So the education of biology/botany/zoology is the need of time.

Careers opportunities including microbiologist, medical laboratory scientist, wildlife biologist, teacher, genetic counsellor, laboratory technician, biotechnologist, forensic scientist, zoologist, ecologist, pharmacologist, scientist, biologist, biochemist, botanist, pharmacist, physical therapist are available for the one who study biology/botany/zoology.

Our department has three well-equipped laboratories. The apparatus present in the laboratories is according to the demand of syllabus of intermediate as well as degree (ADS and BS) programs. Laboratories have Compound and light microscopes, dissecting microscopes, Ovens, water baths, centrifuge machines, slide projectors, multimedia projectors, refrigerators, all chemicals for the tests of carbohydrates, proteins and lipids, water distillation apparatus, skeletons of different animals, stuffed and preserved specimens of representatives of all animal and plant phyla, measuring cylinders, weighing machines and pH meters and apparatus for dissection, staining and temporary slide preparation. Laboratories are large and can accommodate 50 students in each lab. Faculty members are well experienced and very supportive, they guide and teach the students well and help the students in achieving their goals.

As a part of the extra curriculum, the department celebrates different days, and events related to the subject and keeps students well aware. The department has a good internet facility, computer and projector for faculty and students for smooth functioning. Faculty members always create a healthy academic environment and encourage students to participate in various events organized in or outside the college. Faculty members are involved in training the brains of the students in achieving their goals. In our department, we are nurturing students to enable them to be globally competent. We have adopted innovative teaching-learning methods using computer-based techniques in learning. We organize guest lectures on academics. The faculty is involved in effective teaching, timely consultancy and extension activities. The department organizes field trips and projects are allotted to the students to create interest in the subject. The use of PowerPoint presentations and animated videos during the lectures makes the understanding of the subject easier. Guest speakers are invited to add extra knowledge to our students. Study material is provided on a regular basis by the faculty members. Department orient the students about ecosystem, biodiversity, wildlife conservation and management with e help of models, photographs, videos, documentaries and charts.

Vision:

To provide students with a fundamental, global knowledge of animal/plant sciences as well as inculcate morality among students for making them career oriented and strong enough to face challenges in the developing world.

Aims and Objectives:

The specific aims and objectives are:

To facilitate students with knowledge of current advantages in biology/botany and zoology that will provide a foundation for their later advance course work in more specific biological subjects.

To explore animal/plant diversity in the locality.

To offer skill-based programs/courses.

To develop research and scientific attitude among students

To organize programs for people in the locality about social issues.

To make students aware of nature and appreciate it.

The laboratory and lecture sections of the courses are highly integrated and directed toward teaching students the principles of animal and plant evolution, classification, form and function.
